🎓Delighted to welcome @uwtsd_soe graduate Frank Claydon back to the University today to talk to students about a project he has worked on at GRM Consulting Ltd. @GRMConsulting #Motorsport#Engineering
As a former student, Frank was invited back to the University of Wales Trinity St David to talk to students as part of their guest lecture series.
The first half of the lecture covered the fundamentals of FEA and optimisation, whilst during the second half he spoke about GRM’s role in a recent optimisation collaborative project.
The collaborate project, LATITUDE, researched improvements diesel engine technology, with GRM’s role leading the structural and thermal optimisation methods.
“Constrained optimisation is the art of compromise between conflicting objectives. This is what design is all about”
William A. Dembski
During the LATITUDE project, GRM worked closely with Ricardo to develop an advanced optimisation tool-set capable of applying topology and shape optimisation and coupling the multi-physics problems associated with engine block design.
The lecture was well received by students, who are studying automotive, mechanical or motorsport engineering and some of whom will be using Genesis as part of their studies.
Frank spoke about the benefit that collaborative projects bring to an SME like GRM, as well as the technical methods and processes that were employed to deliver the tool-set.
